🧭 Mission

School Zone is a reporting project by Racine County Eye that examines how local, state, and national education policies shape the classroom experience for Racine families. We aim to provide clear, engaging, and deeply reported journalism that empowers families, holds decision-makers accountable, and fosters informed community conversations.

📰 What We Cover

We focus on stories that directly impact families, educators, and students:

• Explainer reporting: Breaking down policies, jargon, and school board decisions so families can understand what’s at stake.
• Voices from the classroom: Centering stories around students, parents, teachers, and staff.
• Watchdog journalism: Investigating spending, accountability, and leadership within the Racine Unified School District.
• Solutions-focused stories: Highlighting programs that work and addressing persistent gaps in achievement and equity.
